Land yachting, kite buggying and kite mountainboarding are great sports to learn and you can cruise along even in very light winds. Once you have acquired the proper skills its time to get moving, slowly at first until you are ready to push yourself as fast as you can handle!
Located on the Akrotiri peninsula, near Lemesos, Ladies mile salt lake is a land sailors paradise. It mainly consists of a 1km2 area of flat smooth hard packed sand surface surrounded by the sea on one side and a large area with small sand dunes on the other.
Land yachting, kite mountainboarding and kite buggy lessons are organised daily for all ages and abilities the main structure of the course being as follows :
Mountainboard and Buggy :
*Safety and site assessment.
*Assembling, launching and landing a foil kite.
*Learning the basics of kite flying.
*How to get going and keep on going with a mountainboard, buggy.
*Emergency stops and getting back to your starting point.
Land yacht :
After a short explanation to teach you how to rig and adjust the land-yacht, your instructor will set up different routes for you to practice on. You progress through the routes as your level improves. A short introduction to each route will be given on the new technical difficulty and the safety rules to observe. These sequences last between 10 to 15 minutes each. You will be also taught how to stop your land-yacht and how to make a U-turn towards and away from the wind. Sessions normally end with fun, go-kart style races.
